Trailer Jack - PowerJackIs anybody else out there tired of their Trailer Jack? You know what I mean, the drop leg that has you diving under your trailer to let it down. There are some of us that are lucky enough to have 2 of these. Now that we have the drop legs where we want them we can start twirling this big handle in a 24" diameter circle. You've got 7500 pounds on the hitch and you want me to do this with a 12 to 1 ratio on a hand crank. Even for the younger guys, that just doesn't happen easily if at all. We could discuss the different ways to lift the trailer, like floor jacks, or forklifts, skid loaders, or maybe fire up the crane on the construction site. That should get the job done. We could unload the trailer. That won't take much time. Maybe we just need another truck, we all know they're cheap. There are 2 speed and even 3 speed landing gears. There are actually some very good hand crank units available. But, they all have one thing in common. That S shaped jack handle that twirls in a 24 inch diameter circle. The good ones have it down to where there is only one hundred pounds of force to lift a load. How this force is applied and for how long is another story. Depending on what jack you have it's going to take anywhere from 24 to 64 turns on that handle to lift the average load the necessary 3-5 inches or more to relax the suspension and clear the hitch. That's a lot of turns on that 24 inch diameter circle and one tired operator on the end of it. Let's hope that operator doesn't slip on the mud or ice, throw his back out or tear up a shoulder.
Now, there is a better wayThe PowerJack SystemTM of Trailer Jacks supplies an answer to these problems. The PowerJack is a selfcontained hydraulic trailer jack. Its horizontal design is unique as it allows the unit to be mounted beneath the trailer or inside the V of the hitch and does not require a tower to be mounted next to the hitch or in front of the trailer. The unit does not have a drop leg, just one long lifting arm. Powered with 10,000 psi industrial hydraulics the units are capable of lifting their rated capacities of loaded trailers. The units have a mechanical lock stand that is engineered for proper loading. This allows parking the trailer with no load pressure on the cylinder, eliminating the possibilities of bursting lines or seals due to thermal expansion of the hydraulic fluids. With the mechanical lock stand there is no settling of the hydraulics. The design of the mechanical lock stand has made the trailers much more theft resistant. Since the jack must be lifted off of the lock stand by hydraulic pressure to be released, mounting the pump in a lockable toolbox is just one more step required after they figure out they even need a pump. PowerJack systems come in three different sizes to match your individual needs. From 3500 pounds to 15,000 pounds of hitch weight, single cylinder or dual and also available in an extended reach model.
